Nursery

One of our pupils commented that our signs and instruments were all dirty so we talked about what we could do. They decided that we could clean them with soap and warm water. They worked really hard to make them look like new again. “We have to look after them to make them look nice.” “I am pushing hard to get the dirt off.” “ They will not break if we keep them nice.” What super responsible and respectable children.

On Thursday 31st August the school hosted a Summer Disco and some of the nursery children came along and had some fun with their nursery and school friends…

Woods Visits

On Wednesdays, Nursery and P1/2 have been making the most of their weekly woods visits together. It is a super transition and play opportunity while also exploring the great outdoors. Here is a few pictures from the last few weeks together.

Digging for gold & minibeasts, climbing trees & taking risks, measuring, making pizza & new friends were the themes of this week’s woodland visit with the Nursery.

A wonderful day at the woods jumping, driving police cars, making potions, digging holes and managing our own risks…

We also worked on our gross motors skills whilst climbing and balancing and explored the den made by p2/3/4 – pretending to be dinosaurs trapped in jail! Another great visit to Milton woods. 🌲

P2/3/4 go every Friday, last week they were developing their numeracy skills and creating patterns.

Nursery also love to go walks…

While out walking, they enjoyed a rest at the woodland cabins. All the children received SHANARRI stickers for being healthy and active enjoying the outdoors. When asked the children said: “It made me feel happy.” “I was running the fastest.” “I liked the climbing.” “Haggis was having fun with us.”

House/Vice Captains

It has been a very exciting week, candidates for House and Vice Captains wrote speeches to persuade their team why they should get the position. They did very well and spoke confidently at Assembly.

The whole school then within their houses as to who they felt should be the worthy winner. Mairi at the Mercat opened the polling station for us and we had a ballot.

The votes were counted and we all gathered to hear who won the votes…

The House and Vice Captains of Logie, Balnagown and Kilmuir are:

Captain is pictured above and our Vice was absent, Emilia.

Well done to everyone for trying and to the new Captains and Vice Captains – we look forward to seeing you fulfilling your role this session.

Nursery

A wee update of what we have been getting up to in the Nursery over the last week…

We have started to help set up our tables in the canteen for lunch. They have to take the lunch items to the canteen, count out cutlery and cups then set it all up on the tables. We have lovely new centre pieces and got everything ready for the children to collect their lunch and enjoy it together. All the children will get a turn to help.

In nursery we have been learning about construction. The boys and girls used Duplo bricks 🧱 to mark make. Well done everyone, what amazing pictures. 🤩

Our construction tuff tray…

“I built a door for my house then knocked it down with the truck”

What fun we are all having in the snow today. ❄️🫧🌨 The boys and girls have been very creative and made a funky snowman.

Milton Woodland

Milton Woodlands – I have just been made aware of a post that has been shared today on the ‘Milton Woodlands’ Facebook that I wanted to share in case you weren’t aware. – “Disappointed and frustrated today. We spent time and effort to get new trees for the woodland and to have them planted. Unfortunately last night unknown individuals decided to either uproot some of the new saplings, effectively killing them off, breaking them in two or removed the covers and the support canes and in some cases snap the canes. Please please please stop these people from us progressing the woodlands and getting new regeneration. We all need to stand together and get this stopped. Many thanks for your continued support.”

This is devastating for the future of our woodlands. It would be great if you could have a chat with your child about this however I am hopeful it is none of our children.
