Disco Dancing

Good evening everyone,

Many thanks to everyone who supported our Disco event. It was great to see so many faces and we really hope everyone had fun. We will let you know the total amount raised for school fund.

We would also like to apologise for the miscommunication about the tuck shop. We tried to ensure anyone who didn’t bring spare money was able to access the tuckshop with some spare funds we had. Hopefully we managed to get round everyone!

Primary 1 need your help.

In Primary 1 we have been looking at people who help us. For the past few weeks we have enjoyed having a Doctor’s role play area in our class but now it’s time for a change. We are hoping to now make out role play area into a Vets  and it would be fantastic if you could help us. If you have any appropriate items at home and you wouldn’t mind lending to a very careful Primary 1 class we will ensure that we return it to you as soon as we are finished playing with it.

The kinds of items we are looking for include:

  • Collars
  • Leads
  • Pet carriers (real or toy sized)
  • Toy pet beds
  • Animals for us to ‘treat’

Thank you 🙂

Week 2 Shieling Project

Primary 6/7 will travel to the Shieling Project tomorrow. I spoke to the children today about what they will need but here’s a quick reminder bearing in mind what we learned from last week:

  • A waterproof jacket and FOOTWEAR. Trousers are good to have but not essential. Many children arrived in trainers last week. This is not appropriate footwear for the work we will be carrying out. The school has waterproof jackets and wellies your child can borrow if this is going to be a problem.
  • A packed lunch. The children are carrying out manual work and have to walk over a mile to even get to the site so believe me they are hungry. It is essential that they are fuelled properly for the day ahead so they get maximum learning from the experience. If you require anything from school please give me a ring in the morning. If you’ve pre ordeded your child a lunch, this has already been prepared.
  • Spare clothes might be handy just so the children can layer up including hat, scarf and gloves.

I will be opening the side door at 8.45am to invite Primary 6/7 in for some toast or cereal before we depart. We need to leave promptly this week as it takes 1 hour to reach the track to get to the site.

Don’t hesitate to call if there are any questions in the morning. We look forward to having a grandparent volunteer with us tomorrow. Look out for updates on our class blog following our experience.

Message for Primary 7 Parents

Mrs Nimmons has sent a text reminder out to all Primary 7 but just in case you missed it:

  • We are due to make the final payment to Park Primary on Wednesday 12th February. Please make arrangements to pay the remaining balance to school before this date.
  • The medical forms also need to be returned to us as soon as possible. We need to pass these on to the trip organiser at Park Primary next Thursday at the Parent Information evening.

Please get in touch with school if you will have difficulty with any of the above.

Rainbow Raiser

  • Milton Primary School and Nursery will be taking part in this Fundraiser.
  • Wear Rainbow colours on Friday 28th February and bring a donation for this fantastic charity.
  • Primary 6/7 will be at the Shieling Project on this day but the children are still welcome to wear bright colours.

2020 marks the 10th anniversary of the Leanne Fund, the only Cystic Fibrosis organisation providing support in the North of Scotland. On Friday 28th of February 2020 they are inviting schools, colleges, work places and businesses to partner with them in hosting a ‘Rainbow Raiser’, from which the funds raised will contribute towards making a difference in the lives of those affected by Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis is a life-threatening genetically inherited condition affecting over 10,500 children and young adults in the UK.  Each week 5 babies are born with Cystic Fibrosis and sadly 2 young lives are lost.  There is currently no cure.

At The Leanne Fund we provide a range of support services to individuals affected by Cystic Fibrosis and their families, helping them to maintain and improve their quality of life and live life to the full.  This help is available across Highlands, Islands, Moray, Grampian and the Northern Isles.

By taking part in a Rainbow Raiser event and wearing your brightest clothes or even a Rainbow Raiser badge you will help change the lives of these children and adults.

Here are just some of the ways the money you raise will be spent –

  • £30 will pay for TV cards for a young CF patient when they are in hospital for treatment
  • £30 will provide a pamper hamper of essential toiletries and snacks to a CF patient when they are in hospital
  • £40 will provide a confidential counselling session to help with issues of anxiety, bereavement, depression, illness and other unexpected life events
  • £40 will provide a complementary therapy treatment to help a young person feel better and cope better with their CF
  • £200 will pay for patient transport costs for those who need additional support for getting to hospital appointments
  • £200 will pay for emergency support for a family when their child is in hospital and they are facing additional costs with accommodation, meals, fuel, childcare
  • £250 will provide a special Christmas experience – a trip to the Panto or a family meal
  • £300 will provide sport and fitness equipment to support an active lifestyle and improve lung function
  • £750 will provide a much needed holiday for a family
  • £750 will provide support for a young CF sufferer who is moving away to college or university or setting up home independently

Every pound raised goes directly to providing these life changing services for those affected by Cystic Fibrosis.

YouTube

The school hs been made aware of the fact that some children have been viewing inapporiate materials online. We must work together to ensure that appropriate action is always taken to help keep our children safe. Please know what your child is up to online, support them to stay safe on the internet. If they are using YouTube please know what they are watching, who they are watching and why.
