Parent Council Information

Please see the e-mail below from Katie Christie, Chair of Bridgend Parent Council:

Hi there,

I am messaging you regarding your Parent Council and support available from Highland Council.

As part of the Alness Locality Plan, Highland Council are offering an information/training night for the Chair, Treasurer, Secretary (and really any interested members from your PC) to give guidance and support. This will be presented by Lynsey, the new Quality Improvement Officer at HC. It was agreed that with Alness and Invergordon being so close together we would include all 9 feeder Primaries along with the 2 Academys.

A date has been confirmed for Thurs 12th March at Alness Academy starting at 7pm. There will be Tea, Coffee, cake and a really relaxed atmosphere. You are very welcome to take as many members as you would like.

When I took over as Chair at Bridgend Primary it was really a case of being thrown in at the deep end and starting from scratch. I have been working with Highland Council to organise this and provide some support for us all.

Please let me know if you are able to make 12th and if you can’t make it yourself, please encourage other members to come along.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Rainbow Raiser & World Book Day

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in our Rainbow raiser last week to raise money for the Leanne Fund. Ms Nimmons and her trusty assistant announced the total raised as £74.70 which we will send along to the charity.

There was lots happening in Milton to celebrate World Book Day today. It was a comfortable day for lots of members of staff getting to come to work in their PJs. A huge thank you to Miss Robinson for taking a photograph of some of our participants. We think they look fantastic!

Lunch Time Changes

A couple of weeks ago, P6/7 came up with a list of strengths and areas for development in relation to the canteen and playground after some issues became apparent.

First, the children had to share their thoughts about the playground/canteen individually, and anonymously, which we collated and shared with all of the children. Then, working in groups, the children narrowed it down to the five biggest development areas and came up with some solutions.

The children in P6/7 asked to change the canteen regime, however, they had to provide an appropriate solution. They did, we discussed it with Mairi and we had a trial last week.

The changes are simple, P1-3 go in early and are served their lunch by supervising adults. P4-7 go in after and line up to collect their own lunch. Previously nearly all classes were in the canteen at the same time and were all served by p6/7 lunch helpers.

Today the children voted for how they’d like lunches to continue.

The vote was very much in favour of making the changes permanent. So we will continue with the new set up for the foreseeable.

Here comes the sun ☀️

It was lovely to see the sunshine make an appearance today. The children happily ate their packed lunches outside and played various games around the park. Smiles all round 😄

World Book Day – Thursday 5th March

We are going to be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5th March 2020. The children are welcome to come to school dressed as their favourite book character or in their PJs. If they have one, we would love them to bring their favourite bed time story with them too.

Reminders

Good Evening all,

Tomorrow, Friday 28th February, Milton Primary will be taking part in a Rainbow Raiser to raise funds for the Leanne Fund. Children are invited to wear rainbow colours to school tomorrow and bring a donation for the charity. P6/7 will be going to the Shieling Project (all being well weather wise) but they are welcome to wear rainbow colours too.

On that note, can I ask for P6/7 parental support in ensuring all children are equipped for the trip out tomorrow. Last time we attended the weather was miserable and we ended up with some miserable children because they were not prepared. Please ensure your child has a warm, winter waterproof jacket, hat, scarf, gloves, plenty of layers (spares in a bag would be a good idea), waterproof trousers and welly boots or other waterproof footwear. If your child requires support with any of the items listed – please contact the school in the morning so we can have these ready for your children in order to be able to leave school at 9.00am promptly.

An email will also be coming to inform you of our plans for World Book Day next Thursday 5th March. The children, and staff, are invited to wear their pyjamas to school and there will be opportunities to take part in a range of book day activities in their classes.

Some of the children may have told you, we have made some small changes to our lunch set up on a trial basis this week. We will review this with the children, and staff, tomorrow and we will write to inform you of any permanent changes next week. Please ask your child/ren about their experience in the canteen this week, we are very keen to hear from you too. If you’d like to share anything with us, please contact the school.

As many of you will be aware, our friends at Park Primary have had a very traumatic week. Here at Milton, we are in awe of the commitment shown by the staff preparing new classrooms at a new location in 48 hours in order to welcome their children back to school today. A huge well done to the children too, for being so brave. Here at Milton, we are sending well wishes along the road to Park and wish them lots of luck as they start a new chapter in Invergordon Academy for now.

Week 3 at the Shieling Project

A wet, windy and pretty miserable day (weather wise) today at the Shieling Project. Unfortunately, many of our children were not prepared and spent some of the day complaining about being wet and cold. We have waterproofs (jacket and trousers) for every child. Even if they’re slightly small on the legs then these can be tucked into the wellies we have for every child. If your child requires any additional resources to be able to fully participate in this experience then please get in touch with the school, we would be more than happy to assist with this.

So a day indoors was called for. We explored our upcoming building project for the pizza oven. We created some drawings of how we visioned the building to look.

Then we had a go at weaving baskets using willow, in pairs. This was a completely new skill for most of the children. Patience was undoubtedly required as well as excellent fine motor skills!

Proud of the finish product. Basket or head massager?

Have a lovely long weekend when it comes everyone. See you all back at school on Thursday 20th February.
