Scotland’s Strongest Man at Milton!

Luke “The Highland Oak” Stoltman popped into Milton Primary this afternoon. The children heard all about his journey to becoming Scotland’s strongest man in 2013 and 2014. Luke came 3rd in UK’s Strongman in 2014 and hopes that one day soon he will become the World’s strongest man. He will be competing for the 2015 Scotland strongman trophy again and Milton Primary are very confident he will bring the title back to the Highlands again. The children prepared some excellent “higher order” questions for Luke. He talked to them about his achievements, his lifestyle and even shared a few stories about his own school days. Luke said one of the most important lessons he had in primary was all about how vital it is to listen. “Listening and learning is so important in Primary School, especially learning in literacy, numeracy and maths”. Luke talked about his determination, motivation and commitment to his sport. He said that it is important for children to follow their dreams and believe in themselves.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Luke for visiting our school today. We all really enjoyed your talk and are looking forward to writing about your visit. Luke has promised to come and run a few laps of the field with us next Friday in a bid to help us on our way to Poland!

The North Star came along and snapped up a few pics this afternoon so keep your eye on the papers over the next couple of weeks!

The new school tracksuits had their very first outing today. Don’t they just look so smart!!! We are looking forward to thanking our sponsors at assembly on Monday.

Well done to all of the competitors who played their socks off and to the parents who came along to offer lots of moral support and encouragement. Excellent morning in Alness!

Marie Curie Daffodil Tea

This afternoon Primary 5/6/7 organised and hosted a Daffodil tea in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. The children were delighted with the support shown by parents and friends of Milton. In total a staggering £250.24 was raised within the space of an hour. A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support this superb charity. The former school cook Mrs Drever made a return this week to help the children bake some delicious cakes, pancakes and scones. Well done P5/6/7 and a huge thank you to Mrs Martin for encouraging the children to make a difference to others.

The lyrics to one of our favourite Fischy songs says it all…

“I can make a difference, you can make a difference, we can make a difference to this world of ours”

Cosy new nests made by the Nursery!

Milton Nursery have been busy making bird boxes for the local wild birds.

The nursery boys and girls explain what they have been busy doing…

“We sawed the wood, hammered on nails and even got to use the power drill. We all made sure we were safe by listening and following instructions and of course we wore safety glasses to protect our eyes! Once the boxes were finished we put in some cotton wool to help the birds make their nest nice and cosy inside.”

A very special thank you Mrs Forth’s Dad who volunteered to come along to the Nursery and provide this fabulous experience for the children. They will remember their morning building bird boxes for a very long time!

Murphy came to Milton!

A very special thank you to Murphy the African Grey Parrot who came along to visit Milton Nursery and Primary this morning. Courtney and Sienna were keen to share some facts about their feathered friend. The children in nursery all asked some super questions and found lots of interesting things…Murphy likes to sleep on his swing, he eats seeds fruit and veg but for a treat loves prawn crackers! He stayed for the whole session to watch what happens at nursery and even spoke to the children.
