Our front door display was changed just before the holidays. Some of the Teachers saw this idea online and thought it was the perfect way to capture how unique all of our children are whilst also highlighting that there is one thing we all have in common and that is Milton!
We think it’s a lovely display for visitors to look at when they arrive at our front door now that things are opening up just a little more.

What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID 19
Please remain vigilant for symptoms of COVID-19 in the coming weeks. Hopefully this will not happen but if your child, or any of your household, develops symptoms a PCR test should be booked as soon as possible. A
Lateral Flow Test may not show positive even if there is infection. Anyone with symptoms will be eligible for PCR testing and further information on testing can be found on NHS Inform. The whole household should isolate if anyone in the household develops symptoms. Children can return to school after receiving a negative test result.
Symptoms
The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of:
• new continuous cough and/or
• high temperature
• a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell
However, people with COVID-19 can present with a wide range of symptoms including headache, sore muscles and joints, tiredness, sore throat, cold-like symptoms and diarrhoea and vomiting. If your child or anyone in the household does develop symptoms, you can seek further advice from NHS Inform.
In the event of a positive case, contact will be made by NHS Highland’s Contact Tracing Team.
Could I please ask you to wear masks when dropping you child/ren off and to maintain social distancing – please do not gather in large groups when waiting at the end of the day.
Can you believe we are into week 2 already?
What an amazing first week we had here at Milton – I was so proud of all our children. What a lovely atmosphere it was in and around the school. The highlight for me was that the children could all mix and be in the playground together – the children were so happy about this. It was so lovely to see and especially how kind, considerate and caring they were to our new and younger pupils.
P567 spent the last couple of days putting together their class charter as an important reminder of how we can ensure everyone is the class is happy, safe, healthy and heard. They worked in pairs to create a different statement for each letter of the alphabet and then we voted privately on each on to pick the best for our class. I am so impressed with the outcome and the thought that has gone into it 💕
P567 also spent time focusing on cooperation completing some challenges in our groups. Here we are with the first challenge which was to build the tallest tower possible with marshmallows and toothpicks that would be able to stand without anyone supporting it. A great example of the importance of sharing ideas and ensuring everyone plays their part 👏#
We couldn’t have asked for a better start from our children, they all really did try their best. #Dream #Believe #Achieve!
We are excited to see what lies ahead this year as anything is possible after this fantastic start!
The last week of term is always filled with mixed emotions. Happiness – to see the summer holidays ahead but also sadness as we say farewell to some of our lovely staff and children.
Mrs O’Shea has a new job in Inverness which she will begin in August. Sadly this means she will not be teaching P3/4/5 next session alongside Mrs Christie but we completely understand that Mrs O’Shea’s family must come first. Yesterday, Miss Bremner visited the school and was introduced to the children. Miss Bremner will share the class with Mrs Christie next session and we look forward to welcoming her to Team Milton.
Primary 3/4/5 said farewell to Miss Hunter this week in style by planning her a surprise wedding. There were tears of joy (and sadness) as we celebrated the special year we’ve had together. There were speeches, games, music and even a homemade wedding dress which Miss Hunter said is even nicer than the real deal! We wish Miss Hunter all the very best as she begins married life later this summer and commences her new post in August. They are a very lucky school to be getting you!
We are all very excited to welcome Ms Brewer back to Milton next session. Ms Brewer is going to be working alongside the staff and children next year developing our Numeracy curriculum. We can’t wait to hear her trademark laugh echoing through the school again!
On Tuesday, we celebrated our new P1s graduating from Nursery with a small garden gathering which we shared on Seesaw. The children took part in a special performance of the story “Tiddler” and shared memories of nursery/aspirations for P1. We wish them all the best on the next step of their learning journey.
Mrs Campbell also joined the graduates as Friday was her last day with us. Mrs Campbell has been an asset to our Nursery team this session and we are all very sad to see her go. We know she won’t be a stranger and will no doubt receive a very warm welcome when she pops in to say hello.
Last but not least, Miss Crew prepared a superb P7 leavers assembly on Thursday afternoon as a tribute to the children moving onto secondary. The children enjoyed a special fun day on Tuesday named “I’m a P7 Leaver, Get me out of here!” where they took part in various challenges to earn stars for their team. The girls just trumped the boys in the end after winning the celebrity cyclone task.
We wish the children all the very best as they transition to Invergordon Academy. We have no doubt their years there will be every bit as successful as their time at Milton.

WOW – our very first festival and boy did we pull out all the stops. Balloons, banners, bunting, VW campervans, photo frames, quizzes, facepainting, music, tattoos and barrels of fun. The weather wasn’t on our side but we made the most of it by taking the party indoors in our bubbles!
A huge thank you to Mairi and Claire for preparing the most delicious picnic lunch for all of the children. It went down an absolute treat.
The fun was followed by a farewell Assembly to our lovely P7 leavers expertly prepared by Miss Crew. I am sure we can all agree she gave them an excellent send off despite the challenges Covid brought. I have to say the photograph of them as “I’m a celebrity/P7 Leaver” camp mates is just brilliant!
We’d like to extend our thanks for the technical support to Mrs Christie’s niece, Leah, for her efforts in putting together the videos for the nursery and the P7 memories. You put our technology skills to shame.

Well done to 3 of our pupils who completed Highlife Highland’s Doorstep Discovery Challenge throughout the month of April.
The challenge consisted of a number of activities that needed to be completed.
The children received goodie bags as a reward for completing the challenge.
This was a super event that was organised by our Active Schools Team at Highlife Highland.

A very happy Friday at Milton today as the children moved up to their new classes and met their new teachers (or same old for some). Have a read of what they got up to below.
P123 spent some time getting to know each other and their new classroom. They explored the new play activities and made a special surprise for someone in their house.
After break they talked about how we are all unique and identified the different things that make us ‘us’! Then they all decorated a fish for Mrs Dunnett’s special welcome display.
In the afternoon they were dying to explore the playground equipment so chose to spend golden time outside in the sunshine! They had such a lovely day and we hope the children are looking forward to August as much as Miss Robinson is!
Primary 3/4/5 welcomed some new children and Mrs O’Shea back for the first time since she had her baby. It was lovely to have her back with us and Mrs O’Shea was delighted to see everyone again. She told Mrs Christie lots of times that she couldn’t get over grown up and responsible everyone had got!
They also started the morning with a little bit of free play – the lego area and dinosaurs proved to be hugely popular but jigsaws and the creative station were also given some attention!
They also made something special for a celebration this weekend (which should be in an envelope in your child’s bag).
Mrs O’Shea then read a lovely story about a very unique elephant and everyone was asked to contribute to a class discussion on what made them special. They also decorated some fish which Mrs Dunnett will use for her welcome display.
There was lots of fun to be had outdoors at break time too. There was lots going on from space hoppers to football to ‘cops and robbers’. Mrs Martin took good care of them in the afternoon – they helped to take care of the plants in the playground and polytunnel. Hopefully we remember to keep checking on everything next week for Mrs Martin.
P567 spent the morning doing a selection of games, jigsaws, wordsearches or colouring before settling in to a flags of the world quiz on a new website called blooket. They linked the task to the current class topic of WW2 and solved some morse code to find the phrases ‘Don’t compare yourself to others’ and ‘Everyone is unique and special’ before colouring their own unique fish for a wall display.
After lunch they spent time outside with the future P7s helping Miss Crew teach the rest of the class a game called scatterball that Jake from Active Schools taught us in our Junior Sports Leader Training. It was great to see everyone taking part and cheering their team mates on. Such a lovely day had by all and really making Miss Crew look forward to August!

We would like to thank all the parents and staff (especially Miss Robinson) for their amazing fundraising efforts for making this upgrade possible and for all of their suggestions regarding décor, quotes for the walls and books.
It really was worth the wait and we cannot wait to see the children enjoying it and getting lost in a book!
Primary 123 have been enjoying exploring our new topic of ‘Houses and Homes’. We have been looking at types of houses and the materials that they are built from. The children have been particularly interested in discussing the properties of materials and the suitability of different materials for specific purposes. WE have also been investigating whether certain materials float and sink. We had to make predictions and see if our predictions were correct. This week the children began to explore the differences between solids, liquids and gases. They had lots of fun making Oobleck- a substance made from cornflower and water that is a liquid and solid almost all at the same time!
