Another busy Monday…

The children were all extremely busy yesterday after their long weekend off.

Each class participated in a visit from SSPCA. P4-7 took on the challenge of programming Oscar the Owl. Everyone completed their Christmas Card templates throughout the day (glitter galore!).

All card orders must be back into school with payment by tomorrow if you would like to place an order.

Huge well done to our Shining Stars, yesterday we had our final achievement assembly for November. Don’t they look pleased with themselves – we are all so proud of you!

The Pupil Council met with all P4-7 children the afternoon, everyone completed their views on our new vision, values and aims.

Our Cross Country team managed to squeeze in some last minute training before their race at Invergordon Academy later today. Good luck!

Promoting Positive Relationships and Behaviour Policy

During our In-Service training days staff worked to develop a new Promoting Positive Relationships and Behaviour Policy.

We feel as a school it is time to make some changes to our current system. We want the children and parents to be fully involved in all changes as this will only be successful if we all work together on required improvements. Sadly last Monday Mrs Sinclair was off ill when she was due to meet with the pupil council and parents to discuss  the document.

Tomorrow morning at 9.30 Carol will be sharing the DRAFT policy with parents at the Action for Children Course. Please pop along to The Mercat if you want to be involved in the next phase of the DRAFT. Your feedback is valued.

In summary:

  • We want a clear guide for new families joining our school
  • We want to list all pupil, parent and staff rights and responsibilities to ensure everyone understands they have an important role to play in supporting all children in our school community
  • Staff want to do more to celebrate positive behaviour
  • Golden time will be replaced with super skills Fridays. Children will still get choosing time throughout the week. Play is not a reward – this is how children learn. Many schools have moved away from Golden time now and we want to ensure our practice is in line with current thinking
  • We will have a whole school recognition board – every 30 days we will start a new whole school target. Staff would like to start with “manners”.
  • The document is by no means complete, Mrs Sinclair will be discussing it again with the pupil council tomorrow afternoon before sharing more widely
  • Any feedback will be taken into account
  • School will be holding a launch night for parents and the wider community later this term.   Mrs Sinclair and the team will present our new vision, values, aims & new policy. A HUGE thank you to everyone who took the time to contribute towards these developments. Exciting changes ahead!

Super Skills Friday’s

We need your help!

Do you have a hobby, interest or special talent that you would be willing to share with us at Milton?

We are changing things up for the children as we feel it’s time for something new…

Each Friday afternoon we will be offering the children the opportunity to learn a new skill for a block of 4 weeks (or more if needed).

We hope to offer as wide a range of activities as possible. Can you knit, sew, sing, dance, craft, are you a digital expert? Are you a joiner, plumber, welder, are you interested in cars or bikes? We want every possible skill and talent available in our community to come forward.

We are also very excited to announce that Murphy the dog (Therapet) will be joining in at Milton very soon! He might just turn up on a few Fridays too.

Many changes ahead and much to look forward to! An information letter will be coming your way next week.

Please get in touch if you want to be involved or know someone else that might!

Keep the woods clean and safe please 👍

The Nursery Children took a walk to the woods today to their meeting place.

Unfortunately, someone had dumped some wood. To their horror, there was still nails in it. Next time, please, THINK before your dump wood:

1.) Could it be dangerous to others.

2.) It might even be useful to the Mens Shed, located in the Milton cabins.

Safety in the community

PC Gordon Elliot will be coming into school on Wednesday at 11.00 to talk at assembly. He will be chatting to the children about the best ways to stay safe in the community.

If any parents would like to chat to the police about issues please call 101.

The 101 non-emergency number will make it quicker and easier for you to contact the police when you don’t need an emergency response, for example to:

  • speak to your local police officer
  • report a crime that’s already happened, such as a theft or damage to property
  • get crime prevention advice
  • make us aware of any policing issues in your area

101 provides one easy-to-remember number to contact the police wherever you are in Scotland, or elsewhere in the UK.

The 101 non-emergency number is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It costs a flat rate of 15p per call from both landline and mobile networks, no matter how long you are on the phone or what time of day it is.

When you dial 101, the system will determine your location and connect you to the service centre covering your area.

Children In Need 2019

It’s fair to say Milton did Pudsey proud today. We started the day with the Joe Wicks morning workout, created our own Pudsey designs then finished the afternoon with some top “Awesome Friday” celebrations!

P2/3 performed their brilliant talent show, which was filled with a range of amazing skills, from magic tricks to singing and dancing, they were fantastic. All awesome and all unique. Well done P2/3!
