Friday 1st July!

Friday was a busy final day of term! Amy celebrated her 12th Birthday and shared some delicious cake, Ellie won the sunflower competition and Miss Taylor gave the school a lovely new football all the way from Northern Ireland.

This term has been a very busy one, lots of fun had by all. Although the last day of term was emotional due to the fact we will miss our amazing P7s, staff are also bursting with pride because each P7 has been a total star and credit to themselves and their families over their time at Milton.

Hopefully all of the alarms are switched off for tomorrow, uniforms away, packed lunches unpacked and sunshine on its way…? (Fingers crossed everyone) 👍🌞

Have a fantastic summer holiday everyone!

Time to say farewell…

Wow, what an emotional day today for our Nursery Graduation and P7 Leaver’s Assembly.

We spent the morning watching our nursery 5 pupils graduate from nursery and receive their certificates and learning journeys from Mrs Sinclair! All of the pupils were able to tell her the things they liked most about nursery. Answers included: “Lego,” “Going down the woods and going on the swing in the woods,” “Playing babies!”and a personal highlight “When Miss McClymont went on the zip and slide.” They sang some lovely songs including ‘Wind the Bobbin up,’ ‘Twinkle, Twinkle’ and ‘You’ve got a friend in me.’ Here are our latest graduates, Miss Spicer is already looking forward to welcoming you in August.

In the afternoon it was the P7s turn! The assembly hall was filled with photographs, songs, memories and poems as we all said farewell to our Primary 7s as they embark on the next step of their journey. I think it’s fair to say we will miss them all very much and wish them every success as they move on to the Academy. The Primary 7s received a lovely photograph gift from all staff as well as a certificate of merit from Mrs Sinclair!

However we couldn’t miss out Miss Taylor who’s parents didn’t want her to feel left out and kindly supplied some lovely school leaver photographs for Mrs Sinclair to share. We wish Miss Taylor every success as she follows her new path back home in August. We will miss her lots and hope she comes back to visit soon!

A small reminder that the final bell for 2015/2016 will ring at 12.00pm tomorrow, you may collect your child from the playground at this time!

Calling all P567 children!

TAIN PANTOMIME GROUP

Calling all current Primary 5, 6 and 7 pupils! And their parents…!

We are looking for enthusiastic singers and dancers to take part in this year’s pantomime – Jack and the Beanstalk which will be performed on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd of December 2016. Talent is far less important than a winning smile and bags of enthusiasm and commitment.

It would mean being available every Wednesday evening from 7-8.30pm in the Duthac Centre from the 17th of August up until the October break. Rehearsals will then be Wednesday, 7-9.30pm and from mid-November, Monday, 7.30-9pm until the week of the show when you will need to be available every evening until approximately 10pm. There is a £10 fee paid either over 10 weeks, or a lump sum at the beginning. There is only one fee per family required.

Anyone who will be in P6 or P7 or secondary school from August 2016 is invited to come along and be part of a great community event and have lots of fun.

We are also looking for adult performers to act in the show, and auditions will take place on Monday 15th August in the Duthac Centre at 7.00pm. If you don’t fancy treading the boards then we are very keen to secure willing parents and volunteers who can help out at the rehearsals and also those who may be able to help during the week of the show. In particular, we are looking for stage-hands, make-up artists, and back-stage helpers.

Pipers on parade!

Very proud of Travis getting his first set of bagpipes today – just in time before leaving Primary School. Owen took his pipes home last week. Mr Matheson is very impressed by the progress made this year. He said the boys all have an exceptional and natural flare! Well done!

Bessy Bass visits Milton🎼

What an excellent afternoon we all had listening to the story of Bessy Bass’ trip around Europe. The children listened intently as the narrator told us the story of Bessy’s visits to France, Spain, Italy and Germany. The story was accompanied by some great songs which the children enjoy playing, clapping, stamping and singing along to. A truly great afternoon was had by all! Many thanks to our guests, we loved having you.

What a fantastic day at our annual Sports Day today! The children participated very well and were excellent Sportsmen and women. At present, Logie house are in the lead with the Primary 7 Sports Day still proposed to go ahead on Monday at 9.30 when they return from transition.

A huge thank you to all of our spectators and to those who were able to donate to our school fund using the Tea and Coffee donation pot. A special mention to the nursery children who came out to cheer us on too with Miss McClymont and Mrs Forth.

Thank you to all staff and volunteers for taking on their various roles- Mrs MacDonald, Mrs Sutherland and Ms Brewer as finish line judges, Mrs Nimmons as scorer, Mrs Sinclair as starter, Miss Taylor, Caitlin and Mrs June as finish line holders and Miss Spicer as caller.

A final thank you to the children who behaved admirably and represented the school superbly in front of a live audience!

Almost there…

It’s hard to believe that we only have 2 weeks left at school for session 2015/2016. Time really does fly when you’re having fun.

On Friday, you should have received your child’s summary of progress for this year as well as a letter informing you of our staffing for next year, as it stands at the moment. There is also a report comment sheet which we would really appreciate you filling in and returning to school as soon as possible. Many thanks 😊

We’d like to wish our Primary Seven’s best of luck at the Academy for their transition week, we look forward to hearing all about it next week when you return for your final week as a pupil at Milton Primary School.

Some reminders for this week:

Monday 20th June

  • P1 Parent Talk 9.00am- Mrs Sinclair and Miss Spicer will be talking to our future P1 parents about our plan for the coming year.
  • Nursery Sports 10.30am, weather permitting.

Tuesday 21st June

  • 9.30am, School Sports, Weather permitting. Please ensure your child comes prepared with a full P.E kit and appropriate footwear.
  • 1.30pm Bessy Bass Show, parents welcome to return to school to share this with their children.

Wednesday 22nd June

  • Transition Day for all pupils from 11.00am- 2.00pm. Pupils will meet their new teacher, where possible, and enjoy some activities in their new classes. A reminder that P1 parents are invited to join us for lunch from 12.00pm. Please let Mrs Forth or Miss McClymont know if you’d like to stay and order your lunch as soon as possible.

Last week we finished our health week with class visits to our very own Milton Primary School Spa. The pupils were encouraged to relax and learned about the importance of taking time out for themselves. The decision on which treatment to get was left entirely with the pupils and therapists simply carried out their wishes. A great day was had by all 👍🏻

Day 2 Health Week

Yesterday, Lorna Baxter visited school to reinforce the importance of knowing the sugar content of our foods! She explored healthy and unhealthy mouths with the pupils and they had the opportunity to describe what this looked and felt like. Seth and Natasha gave an excellent demo of the length of time we should be brushing for- see pics below! Lorna left some excellent materials for us to explore including a leaflet on how you can support your child at home and a brush chart reminder so they can keep up the brushing during the holidays. P1/2 were also presented with “Top Brusher” awards- well done everyone 👍🏻

The children enjoyed a session with Ross Sutherland rugby coaches! Great fun was had by all as the pupils explored key skills required to be a successful rugby player. Miss Spicer left her session very puffed out as the coaches suggested the pupils chase her for a “cool down” 😅 she was too fast for P1/2 but didn’t fancy her chances up the school!!!
