Day 2 in Primary 1

First of all, a huge well done to all pupils for coming in to school by themselves so well this morning. They all had a lovey smile and seemed pleased to come back to school today!

Look at our finished Elmer masks! I’m sure you’ll agree they look absolutely fantastic. The children made a super job Collaging the squares to make a patchwork effect.

Abigail and Ben enjoyed playing Elmer Bingo to make sure they knew their colours! They worked very hard to share and take turns.

We also looked at some 2D shapes this morning. The children identified circles, rectangles, squares and triangles very well this morning and also learned about pentagons and hexagons. Khalea also managed to tell us all about an oval- well done. We sorted and traced some shapes today too- look at us busy at work.

Thank You ❤️

I really hope everyone had a super first day back! I’d like to take the opportunity to thank the pupils at Milton who were able to make it up to Dornoch to share our special day. I’m sure you can tell by the look on my face as I first caught sight of you all coming round the corner that I was truly delighted to see you. I have JUST about forgiven you all for the confetti throwing. A special thanks to your parents too for bringing you up, I hope you were treated to an ice- cream after being made to visit your teacher in the holidays! Thanks again, here are a few moments our photographer managed to capture 📸

Well done Primary 1 🎉

A huge pat on the back to our new primary 1 pupils for their exceptional behaviour on their first day of school. A second well done to the P1 parents for leaving your children in our care without too many tears. Please try to leave your children at the line tomorrow, it’s very important that the pupils get used to coming in to school indpendently in the mornings.

The children settled beautifully into class routine. We enjoyed a little bit of free play this morning, we used the Smartboard to help us with our counting, we listened to stories, we drew pictures, we made Lego models and pancakes in our playdough bakery!

We then went to assembly with Mrs Sinclair who reminded us of our school golden rules and responsibilities. We all listened very carefully. We also got sorted into our new houses- Balnagown (Red), Logie (Blue) and Kilmuir (Green). Mrs Christie will post a list soon.

After play time we brushed our teeth and then read all about Elmer, a very unique elephant. We decided to become like Elmer. Here are the beginnings of our masks which we will finish tomorrow.

Then it was time for home! I’m sure many of you have some tired little children in your house tonight but I hope they’re ready and eager to do it all again tomorrow.

Please check school bags tomorrow- your child will bring home your invite in to school on Thursday for a welcome back chat with Mrs Sinclair and an opportunity to visit your child’s classroom. There will also be a healthcare form which you should complete and bring back to school.

See you in the morning,

Mrs Christie

Message for P1 Parents

Hello all,

I am really looking forward to welcoming our 2016/17 Primary 1s to Milton at 9.00am on Tuesday 16th August.

A small reminder that your child should join their class line in the morning and I will come to collect them with the other teachers. Don’t worry if you are unsure, I’ll be about before the bell to keep you right 😉 For the first day only, you may accompany your child into the cloakroom to change their shoes and through to the classroom where you are free to take photographs of your child. At approximately 9.15am we will ask you to leave your child in our capable hands and collect them again at 12.30pm from the reception door. This collection time will continue for the rest of the week. A full school day will begin for all P1 pupils on Monday 22nd August from 9.00am-3.00pm.
Ahead of Tuesday, I hope this poem puts your mind at ease. See you all bright and early in 2 sleeps 😊

Dear Parent,
I understand that you are scared

to wave your child goodbye

and leave them in a teacher’s hands

don’t worry if you cry!
I’m used to weeping parents

It’s hard to leave I know.

But it’s time to share them (just a bit)

To help them learn and grow.
Let me reassure you

That I’ll give your child my best

I’ll wipe their tears, soothe their fears

And change their dirty vests!
If your darling child is full of cold

I’ll blow their nose all day

Just like you, I’ll care for them

In a special way.
I’ll treat them like I would my own

I’ll catch them from a fall and

If there is ANY problem

I’ll be sure to tell you all.
It’s true they’ll grow to love us

They’ll talk of school a lot

It doesn’t mean they hate you

And that you should lose the plot!
I’ll tell you a secret..

That when your child is here

They talk to me as much of you

Of this please have no fear.
You’ll always be their mother

Whilst teachers come and go

To them you are their number one

This I truly know.
Soon you’ll see some changes

In your little girl or boy

They’ll become more independent

And to see this, it’s a joy!
I’ll teach them all I have to give

To share, climb and to write

But to you they safely will return

To tuck them in at night.

With love from Mrs Christie ❤️

She looked stunning and Mr Christie scrubbed up very well too. Best wishes as you begin married life together from everyone at Milton!
