A Taste of Scotland

Ahead of St.Andrew’s Day, primary 1-3 sampled some tasty Scottish foods.

First, we discussed foods that are special to Scotland to establish what the children already knew. Suggestions included: Haggis, chocolate, shortbread, tablet, bread, porridge, sherbet, scones, sugar and the list goes on. Miss Bruce discussed a request from her friend in Australia who asked her to send her some of these foods including a wee drink of Irn-bru! The children quickly named the Mummy and Daddy juice which is special to Scotland too, see if you can guess what that is 😉 It also features in our school show this year!

We went on to discuss taste and texture of various food types and asked the children for some suggestions as to how to describe different foods. Suggestions included: sweet, salty, crunchy, bitter, nippy, crumbly and sour along with many others. We were very impressed by their suggestions!

Then it was on to sampling! We tasted oatcakes, Scottish tablet, shortbread and porridge. We were DELIGHTED as all of the children sampled some and we didn’t hear any of the famous “I don’t like it” before they tried! Miss Bruce and I felt very proud. Here are some photographs of their afternoon.

Wet Weather

As you all know, the weather has been very wet over the past couple of days. We encourage the children to go out in all weathers, unless there’s a concern for their safety, so please can we ask for your support in ensuring your child is appropriately dressed for the Scottish winter at school!

Whilst we are very lucky to have such a vast area of grass to play on at break times this does mean that we are very prone to slippery areas. Over the past couple of days we have had multiple incidents of children slipping on the mud and becoming very wet due to stepping in puddles.

It would be very helpful if you could ensure your child has their P.E kit with them at school every Monday-Friday to allow them to change out of wet/muddy clothes before entering the classroom. We are happy to help with drying items but your child will need something to change into in the meantime . Even better, pop a spare change of clothes in their school bag!

Thank you 😊

We only had 10 responses to the questionnaire so if you’d like your views to be heard on the use of our Homework Diaries, please feel free to discuss this with a member of school staff who can provide you with a Questionnaire.

The result of the button vote where we asked ‘How can we help you with Literacy at home?’ had 24 votes and the results were as follows:

Please be assured that School Staff will use your feedback to move forward in the next term. As ever, we’d like to thank you for your support and providing us with your thoughts and opinions.

Milton Football Team are Champions!

I’m so sorry for the delay in sharing this fantastic news with you, however, I’m hoping the Football Team themselves have done a super job of sharing it!

Last Thursday, the Football Team made up of some Primary 4/5 and 6/7 pupils went along to Alness Academy with Miss Ross (kindly supported with transportation by Mrs Nimmons) to play in a football tournament with teams from Primaries across Invergordon and Alness ASG.

The children were a credit to the school and were delighted to come home as champions of the whole tournament under very tough conditions. The ground was very slippery underfoot but the team battled on and it definitely paid off. We are all very proud of them at Milton. Well done Team!

A huge thank you to Ms Brewer too who has very kindly volunteered to wash the strips! IMG_9618IMG_9619IMG_9620I
