International Space Station

P345 have been learning about Space as part of their topic.

To start, the children were tasked with creating a panel for the space station for Technology using a range of joining techniques (rather than a whole roll of sellotape.)

An invite then went out to parents so that we could surprise the children.

On Friday night and Saturday Ms Brewer worked very hard to transform the area. Thank you so much to all the family who came to help.

This morning, the look on the children’s faces was amazing, they were so happy! They have been enjoying playing/creating and using their imagination to pretend they are in Space.

The end result is incredible…

A tinkering station to fix things!

Nursery

We have been busy bees in the Nursery over the last couple of weeks. The children have loved learning about Chinese New Year.

We changed our role play area into ‘K Style’ takeaway. The boys and girls are really enjoying working in our takeaway. They are taking turns to write orders down, cook, serve , wash the dishes and wait for the orders to be prepared. We are very grateful to K Style for their donations.

The children love their weekly woods visits.

We are very lucky, Ms Brewer the P345 teacher comes down every Wednesday afternoon to work with us, she is a numeracy expert and does different activities with us. This week we learnt ‘5 little speckled frogs.’

The children went on a community walk and stopped to buy things at the shop.

Sporting Events

It has been a busy week here at Milton, we have taken 2 teams out to sporting events.

The first outing was on Tuesday where we took a group of children from P4-7 to the first of the Running Series Events in Inver. They ran very well and thoroughly enjoyed it. They were a dream to take out. On Tuesday they will go to Alness to take part in Event 2.

On Thursday we took our Swim Team to take part in the Ross Shire Sports Association Swimming Gala. Milton were in Group C and came 2nd overall. They were a credit to the school and did amazing – we are so proud. It was so good to see the return of the Gala after 3 years due to Covid.

Nursery

The boys and girls have been very busy in the Nursery. Here are a few pictures of what they have been learning and getting up to…

Sorting the bears by colour

Today we learned about why we wear poppies. We watched some short films about poppies and learned we wear them to remember all those who went to war for us. We then made a giant Poppy wreath together to go our wall. Some children drew pictures of soldiers who fought in the war.

We made beautiful poppies to remember those who went to the wars. Using sticky plastic, tissue paper and card we created poppies for our windows. We think they look great.

Some of the children had the opportunity to explore patterns with Mrs Brewer, they did some fantastic work and showed great listening.

To celebrate bonfire night we had our own bonfire down at the woods and cooked some tasty hot dogs for snack. We discussed the dangers of fire and how to keep ourselves safe. “Don’t stand too close!” “If you touch the fire you will get burned.” – After our hot dogs we ate our yummy chocolate sparklers …

The boys and girls had great fun making glittery firework pictures. They look brilliant hanging in our classroom. ✨

🎃Happy Halloween🎃

It was wonderful to be able to host the Parent Council Halloween Disco on Friday night for the first time in 3 years.

A huge thank you to our parent council for organising, especially the lovely goody bags that they made.

We also have the best canteen staff who went the extra mile to make spooky treats for us at lunch today.

Taste Testing

On Friday 23rd September we invited our parents in to sample some of the dishes we made using the tatties we planted and harvested as part of the Dandelion Project.

The children prepared and cooked in the morning which demonstrated super organisational and cooperate skills. We then had super servers who were so polite and engaged very well with their ‘customers.’

It was also a great opportunity to ‘meet the teacher’ and be in the school. There was such a lovely buzz within the school.

New Term

We are now at the end of our second week into our new term. We are delighted to have welcomed lots of new Primary 1s and a few new Nursery children too.

The children are settling well and there is a lovely calm and productive feel within the school.

We are also delighted to welcome new staff to #Team Milton.

Here is a wee selection of what we have been up to….

Maths in P123 with Miss Rostock
The boys and girls in the nursery enjoyed exploring the obstacle course this morning and were practising their balancing skills.
This week our new P1s started to look at how to write the sounds we’ve been learning. It’s trickier than it looks!
P123 read ‘The Colour Monster’ and then created a monster based on how we were feeling.

Visit from Mull Hall

We were delighted when Mull Hall asked if they could bring some residents to visit our Nursery Setting, we welcomed them with open arms.

The children sang some songs and then they went out into the garden to play. The children loved hearing stories from the past, they had a wealth of knowledge that they loved sharing with the children. We were so proud of our children as they were chatting and singing away to the residents.

We hope to welcome them back soon.
