Some good tips from the other side of the world…

The Australian Parenting Website offers some really helpful advice, this is worth a read if you have some time…

Learning in early primary school

Children learn in different ways – some learn by seeing, some by hearing, some by reading, some by doing.

And at this stage, children still learn through play. Plenty of unstructured, free playtime helps balance formal lessons at school and also gives children a chance to unwind after the routines and rules of school.

Children also learn by using objects in lots of different ways. When your child is experimenting, exploring and creating with a range of materials, she learns about problem-solving in situations where there are no set or ‘right’ answers.

Children aren’t born with social skills – they have to learn them, just like they have to learn to read and write. Giving your child chances to play with other children is a great way for him to develop the skills he needs to get on with others.

Well done team Milton 👍

The rotary quiz was a huge hit with our team this year. Weronika, Sophie, Sam, Isabella and Jayden held their own in the first half. The second half proved more challenging for our team but they really did Milton proud with their fabulous attitudes and teamwork skills. Well done all!

We have an Elf visitor.

Last week a rather large elf arrived outside Primary 4/5/6.

However he’s being a little bit cheeky and won’t tell us his name. Can you help us name him?

Guesses will be £1 and the winner will be chosen at end of term assembly.

If you’d like to guess please come to the office or send £1 to school with your child.

We will also have the elf at the Mercat fair tomorrow (Wednesday 14th).

Happy guessing!

School Text Service

The system that we use to record attendance and data has a facility that we can use to text parents.

We will be testing out this facility over the next week or so. Please let us know your thoughts. You can’t reply to the texts but we plan to use the system to help us keep in touch with you. Often mobile signals are not great in the village so we are interested to see if texting is more successful.

The number does not accept texts or calls so please do not reply and remember to just call us at the office on 01862 842 537.

Gymnast wins medal!

We are so excited to see Ava’s gymnastics medal at assembly on Monday. Her vault and floor routine were just amazing and it was lovely to have seen a film clip of her in action. Her skills are definitely going to come in useful for J Rock prep 👍

Please remember to bring all of your out of school achievements along to school as we love hearing all about them.

A huge well done to all of the winners and bakers, and a massive thank you to the organisers. What a lovely event for everyone.

We think a new record may have been set tonight – a 2 day old bingo attendee. Welcome to the world gorgeous girl.

Hopscotch

Hello all,

An email has arrived to ask if we would like to apply for the Hopscotch residential trip again the session. We had 12 children attend last year and everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the experience and develop several new skills.

The charity organisation aims to provide a holiday for young people across Scotland. This is a 4 night residential for children aged 7 or upwards.

This year we would like to invite all families to visit the office and put their child’s name forward if you feel they might benefit from this experience.

If your child has already attended and would like to return you may re apply.

If we are successful and we have more than 12 interested children we will prioritise children that have not previously attended or draw names if need be.

Please let us know by Monday 12th November.

This is a free holiday!

Running Series – Fortrose

Our Milton Cross Country team did very well today. The bus is just leaving Fortrose Academy so we will arrive back at school (traffic permitting) by 3.00pm.

It was slightly windy but mild for the runners, they all tackled the hill with a very positive attitude.

Paulina took 9th place so returns with a medal. Michael was our fastest boy back taking 23rd place.

We are looking forward to the next race at Bridgend Primary at 1.30 on Friday 23rd November. Parents are invited to come along and cheer along the runners!
